In an article recently published by the Wall Street Journal, “Your Body’s Witching Hours,” researchers explain how important it really is to have an entrained circadian rhythm for health and wellness.  For those who are unaware, a circadian rhythm is your internal clock that controls virtually every system of the human body, from circulation and cognition to metabolism, memory and mood.

The biggest factor in the natural environment that effects the human circadian rhythm is exposure to light and darkness.  This exposure to light and darkness effects the natural production of hormones that is vital for one’s well-being.  With proper exposure to sunlight (specific nanometers in blue light) in the morning and throughout the day your body will produce cortisol, a stress hormone necessary for blood pressure management, reduced inflammation and a stronger immune system.  At night you want no exposure to blue light because it causes your body to suppress the natural growth of melatonin, a hormone necessary for sleep and a natural antioxidant.  For example, during the shorter days of the winter months, your body may produce melatonin either earlier or later in the day than usual; furthermore, this change in melatonin levels can lead to symptoms of seasonal affective disorder (SAD), or winter depression. When the photoreceptors within the human eye notice the elimination of blue light in the environment signals are sent to the brain to produce melatonin which prepares the body for sleep and natural defense against various diseases.

With cortisol and melatonin levels in mind, we developed the WalaLightTM System to produce the ideal circadian rhythm light conditions for indoor environments that is necessary for proper exposure of light and circadian rhythms levels, day and night.  The WalaLightTM is engineered to hit the exact nanometers of blue light required for the natural secretion of cortisol and suppression of melatonin throughout the day.  Furthermore, the WalaLightsTM at night time have the ability to adjust Kelvin temperature to a very warm and relaxing level eliminating blue light which initiates the natural secretion of melatonin.  With the use of our dlux Pro control system the lights throughout a facility will adjust automatically over a 24-hour period to create the ideal environment for healthy cortisol and melatonin levels.
