Meet Harry Zuker of WalaLight in Boca Raton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Harry Zuker.

Harry, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Harry Zuker is a former commercial real estate broker and developer who transitioned into LED lighting in 2007 when the real estate market was failing. Started by representing manufacturers and offering customers factory direct pricing on LED lighting. Grew a strong organic and paid SEO campaigns that exposed us to a great commercial/industrial base. This division specializes in floodlights, stadium lighting, garage lighting, street and lot lighting among others. Our highly trained salespeople are considered Lighting Experts based on their tremendous product knowledge.

In 2013, Harry went to the Silicon Valley to learn from leading brain scientists and engineers about the human effects of lighting. Armed with this knowledge he worked with a team of engineers to develop the best Circadian Rhythm LED lighting system finely tuned to recent brain science known as WalaLight (www.walalight.com). He set up a factory to produce the lighting outside of Montreal and a national sales team headquartered in Boca Raton.

WalaLight’s main customers are in the fields of Senior Living Communities, Schools, Offices, Hospitals and many others. This healthy lighting system automatically changes the lighting in a facility to simulate daytime lighting that stimulates Cortisol and slowly changes throughout the day to a warm torch colored evening lighting that helps produce Melatonin to make people relaxed and tired.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest challenge is inventing a product with “grassroots” sales versus selling the idea or technology to the giant lighting companies. Harry has always run a family business and seeks to remain that way as he works with his two sons, Sam and Andrew. The challenge is how to expose the product best to the end users and making it “viral” without a huge marketing budget.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about WalaLight – what should we know?
We studied brain science first and then developed our LED lights based on the biological features required by brain science to promote a healthy circadian rhythm. Lighting companies have bulbs that they call healthy lighting but don’t meet the requirements. Once we show our products to customers, they are hooked and understand why WalaLight is superior to others even if it costs a little more due to superior quality components.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Perseverance. Entrepreneurs will get a lot of rejection but must keep plowing ahead to become successful.
